Spring 2024

15 school water, sanitation and hygiene project in Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri Provinces, Cambodia

Our flagship project for 2024 will see 15 remote ethnic minority schools in NE Cambodia benefit from improvements to their water, sanitation and hygiene facilities including installation of new wells and water filtration systems. Guernsey Aid will be funding the whole project and it will be implemented by United World Schools, our in-country partner in Cambodia. One of the schools involved will be Chak Chap school in Ratanakiri Province which was built by Guernsey Aid in 2022 in conjunction with UWS. They will be provided with an accessible disability inclusive toilet.

Altogether more than 1,300 children in 6 mainly Bunong village communities will benefit from the improved facilities.

The project will address the following challenges which have been identified at these particular schools: a) A lack of access to safe drinking water whilst at school, b) Insufficient well depth to provide an adequate water supply in the dry season, c) Poor hand-washing facilities that fail to meet hygiene sensitization standards and d) A lack of accessible and disability inclusive toilet facilities.

Mwekako Health Centre, Chato District, Tanzania

We recently received feedback from the Eleanor Foundation that the outpatient department at Mwekako Health Centre in NW Tanzania is now open and that the donation from Guernsey Aid has provided; a childbirth delivery bed / two other normal beds / two mattresses / a privacy screen / some neonatal scales and a stethoscope. The news came with grateful thanks and much excitement!
