The Eleanor Foundation www.eleanorfoundation.co.uk

Guernsey based charity The Eleanor Foundation was set up by Allister Carey MBE in 2012 following the tragic death of his daughter Eleanor whilst cycling in London. She had been studying International Development and had a particular interest in water, sanitation and hygiene issues which consequently have become the main focus of the Foundation’s work in the Biharamulo and Chato Districts of rural NW Tanzania. In close collaboration with government the Eleanor Foundation has provided clean water to numerous village communities and upgraded sanitation facilities at numerous schools. With help from the Guernsey Overseas Aid Commission they have also built a health centre and maternity unit to serve the people living in Mutundu. In January 2022 Dr Nick and Claudine travelled out to Tanzania with the Eleanor Team and saw for themselves the excellent work that they do. As a result Guernsey Aid have since provided funding for a brand new shallow well in Nyampende Village, Chato District and we hope to continue working in partnership with the Foundation in the years ahead (see also the Spring 2022 news update page).
